The 44th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup took place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where Pakistan and England faced off. England won the toss and elected to bat first.

England had a solid start with a good opening partnership between Jonny Bairstow and David Malan, scoring 82 runs for the first wicket. They put up a strong batting performance, posting a total of 337/9. Ben Stokes showcased his batting prowess, scoring his third successive fifty and falling just 16 runs short of a century. After Bairstow's impactful half-century, Stokes and Joe Root combined to rebuild the innings, setting the stage for a late onslaught by Harry Brook and Jos Buttler.

Despite their efforts in the death overs, Pakistan faced a challenging target of 338, requiring an improbable chase of 6.4 overs to advance to the semi-finals surpassing Kiwi's net run rate.

Chasing the target, Pakistan struggled under the pressure of a big run chase, losing Abdullah Shafique on the second ball of their innings. While Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Saud Shakeel all got starts, they were unable to convert them into big scores. Agha Salman was the highest scorer for Pakistan, scoring 51 off 47 balls as they were eventually all out for 220, resulting in a big win for the defending champions to finish the tournament.

For England, David Willey, who was playing his last international game, emerged as the standout performer with the ball as he took three important wickets to derail the chase of the Pakistani team.
