A well-set Travis Head was cleaned up by Keshav Maharaj in the 15th over as Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi began spinning a web around the Australian middle order. The duo picked three wickets between them to leave Australia reeling at 137/5. The Kangaroos were further reduced to 193/7 in their allotted needing another 20 runs to win. However, an unbeaten 22-run stand between Mitchell Starc (16* off 38) and Pat Cummins (14* off 29) guided their team home.
David Miller scored a brilliant hundred
Earlier in the day, South Africa got off to a disastrous start as skipper Temba Bavuma (0 off 4) was dismissed in the very first over itself by Mitchell Starc. The Proteas further lost three wickets in the form of Quinton de Kock (3 off 14), Aiden Markram (10 off 20) and Rassie van der Dussen (6 off 31) and were left reeling at 24/4 after 11.5 overs.
A 95-run stand between David Miller (101 off 116) and Heinrich Klaasen (47 off 48) stabilized the innings. However, Travis Head brought Australia back into the game by dismissing Klaasen and Marco Jansen (0 off 1) in the same over. Meanwhile, Miller continued to hold one end and scored a brilliant hundred.
Courtesy of his innings, South Africa managed to cross the 200-run mark and were bundled out for 212 in 49.4 overs.
