The much-awaited 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup final between India and Australia kicked off in Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, November 19. This marks the second instance of the two teams facing off in the ODI World Cup final, with their first encounter in 2003 resulting in Australia clinching the title.
The tournament commenced with a breathtaking air show courtesy of the Indian Air Force. Further enhancing the spectacle, a captivating light show during the drinks break in the second innings left the packed stadium in awe.
The ring of fire illuminates, accompanied by lasers synchronized to the beats of "Dil Jashn Bole," the official anthem of this tournament, and the audience appears to relish every bit of it.
Half-centuries from Kohli, Rahul propel India to post 240 in 50 overs
Speaking of the game, India were asked to bat first after losing the toss. Australia's bowlers were brilliant from the beginning of the innings, limiting the Men in Blue to a subpar total of 240 runs. Despite a strong start by India, Mitchell Starc provided a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Gill for just four runs. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma showcased his power-hitting, but his innings was halted at 47 runs by Glenn Maxwell, narrowly missing a well-deserved half-century. The India captain ended his campaign with the bat as the second-highest run-scorer of the tournament with 597 runs from 11 games, including a century and three half-centuries.
Later, Virat Kohli hit a half-century and stitched a 50-plus run partnership with KL Rahul for the fourth wicket. Kohli amassed 54 runs, concluding his campaign with the bat as the leading run-scorer of the tournament. The former India captain accumulated 765 runs, including three centuries and six half-centuries at an average of 95.62. Meanwhile, Rahul, the side’s fourth leading run-scorer, was dismissed by Star after a well-compiled 66 off 107 deliveries. The wicketkeeper-batter has so far amassed 452 runs, which included one century and two fifties.
