England were dismissed for 281 runs in their first innings against Pakistan in the second of the three-match Test series at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Pakistan’s young sensation, Abrar Ahmed swiftly decked up the batting line-up as he scalped seven wickets on his debut for the side.
Opting to bat first, the Three Lions started off decently with Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope registering half-centuries. However, it was Abrar who handed the Men in Green the vital breakthroughs and sent the English batters packing before they could create much of a trouble.

In the 43rd over of the English batting innings, skipper Ben Stokes was up against the young leggie from Abbottabad. Abrar hit the wrong ‘un which went past the English skipper onto his wickets. Stokes looked to defend the ball but missed it as the ball drifted towards the top of middle-and-off stumps and he was left stunned by the youngster's spin. The skipper’s dismissal marked Abrar's sixth wicket in the contest of his seven in the innings.
Pakistan begin their batting innings
After the sensational performance by the debutant, England could only manage to post a total of 281 runs on the scoreboard. Apart from Abrar’s seven, Zahid Mahmood racked up the remaining three wickets to get the rival side all-out.
Now, Pakistan have begun their batting innings but have lost Imam-ul-Haq and Abdullah Shafique (at the time of writing this article). However, skipper Babar Azam will look to construct a vital partnership in the middle and give the English side a run for their money.
The Men in Green have dented their chances of cementing a spot in the summit clash of the ICC World Test Championships 2021-23 following the loss in the first Test. With the loss in Rawalpindi, the side handed arch-rivals India a major boost to have better chances of qualifying. In any case, Babar Azam and Co. will aim to get a result in their favour in Multan to stand level in the series against the Three Lions.
