Freedom of speech is a fundamental right that everyone is entitled to, and it is especially pertinent in the realm of journalism, where its significance is particularly pronounced. However, any form of opinion should be moderated and conducive to fostering meaningful and constructive discourse among participants.

This was not the case with the prominent Pakistani journalist, Farid Khan, who abruptly initiated a debate on X by posting a collage featuring southpaws from India and Pakistan - Sourav Ganguly and Imam-ul-Haq, respectively. The caption was what rendered the situation particularly perplexing, as he solicited his followers' opinions and engaged the audience in a discussion about which of the two batters was superior.

As anticipated, the post attracted considerable criticism from those engaging with it, as evidenced by the diverse reactions in the comments section. The discourse ranged from resentment to widespread questioning and derision.

On one side is the illustrious Ganguly, whose impressive tally of 18,575 runs spans a distinguished career encompassing 424 international matches. In contrast, the 28-year-old Imam, with just over a quarter of Ganguly's runs, has yet to solidify a concrete and established presence in international cricket. This disparity in statistics might very well be the underlying reason for the intense retaliation faced by the columnist from netizens. Such a response can be attributed solely to the stark contrast in the statistical records of the two cricketers.
