The South East Asian Games (SEA Games) is being held in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia. Notably, the game of Cricket is being featured in the event for the second time after it made its debut in Malaysia back in 2017. In this cricket tournament, a total of eight teams are participating across four formats viz- T10, T20, 50 Overs and SIx-a-Side aka 6s. Both the men's and women's teams are representing various South East Asian countries.

Interestingly enough, in the past week, several unbelievable records have been attained by the Asian teams. One such team is the Philippines In Match 5 of Group A, the Philippines were locking horns with Malaysia. The Malaysia Women's captain, Winifred Duraisingam, won the toss and chose to field first.

Despite being one of the most explosive formats in cricket, the Phillipines put up a rather mind-boggling batting performance. The Filipina batters played the whole 20-over quota but only managed to post 21/9 on the board. As a result, the Philippines scored the lowest team total after playing the full quota of 20 overs in women's T20I cricket history.

Talking of notable performances, the Malaysian skipper led from the front and picked up a wicket while bowling two maidens in her 4-over bowling spell. The star for the Malaysian team with that ball was Danusri Muhunan, who took a 3-wicket haul by conceding just five runs in three overs. Catherine Bagoisan, Simran Sirah and Ma Mandia were her victims.

The Philippines broke Mali's record for the lowest team total in Women's T20I history

From the Philippines side, they had a rather dismal start by losing both the openers on a duck. Thereafter, only Catherine showed some resistance and top-scored with seven runs for her side. Astonishingly, the Philippines did not even score a single four or six respectively even after playing full 20 overs.

In the process, they broke Mali's 3-year-old record of 30 runs which they had made against Rwanda, back in June 2019. However, unlike the Philippines, they were chasing the target and shockingly lost to the African nation with a mammoth difference of 216 runs.

Now speaking of the run chase, it was only a matter of time for Malaysia as their openers convincingly gunned down the target in 2.3 overs. Meanwhile, the Filipina bowlers had a lacklustre performance with the ball as well. They gave seven extras during the run chase to make it way easier for their opponents to pick up the win like a breeze. Both the openers, Mas Elysa (11 off 6 balls), and Jamahidaya Intan (5 off 10 balls), remained unbeaten as Malaysia won the match by 10 wickets.

Notably, Six countries are playing cricket in the SEA Games 2023. These nations are Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand in Men's event while Myanmar are the seventh team taking part in the women's cricket tournament. Notably, Vietnam withdrew from the coveted event.
