Former Indian spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan launched a scathing attack on Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Saturday, September 30. The 57-year-old posted several controversial Tweets from his X account and made disparaging remarks about Ashwin saying that pitches in India are doctored to help him perform.

He further reasoned that Indian batters’ low returns with the bat in recent times in Tests are due to the authorities who doctor pitches to help Ashwin. The Chennai-born cricketer didn’t stop there and further said that any fool can take wickets on doctored wickets.

The former India cricketer even went on to call Ashwin a selfish stats player and said that if not for MS Dhoni or Chennai Super Kings, he would’ve had to wait longer to get into the Indian team.

Sivaramakrishnan tried to correct Ashwin's action

The entire saga began when Sivaramakrishnan found a fault in Ashwin’s bowling action and tried to correct it in one of his Tweets. The former spinner stated that Ashwin’s non-bowling arm and upper body has opened up towards the offside while his lower body was closed which leads to a lack of synchronisation.

“This picture has gone viral on SM. Enlarge the image and you notice his non-bowling arm and upper body has opened up towards the offside. If you look at his lower body is closed. This leads to lack of synchronisation. Ash quickly needs to correct this to be more effective,” he posted on his X account.

However, the Tweet didn’t go down well with numerous fans of Ashwin who began bashing him in replies. As a result, to get even with the trolls, Sivaramakrishnan launched a scathing attack on Ashwin in a series of Tweets.

A few hours later, the former cricketer revealed that he had a call with Ashwin regarding his bowling action and the India cricketer expressed disappointment on the attack by trolls on his behalf. To close the matter, Sivaramakrishnan wished good luck to the Indian off-spinner for the ODI World Cup 2023.

The 1985 World Championship of Cricket winner further lambasted the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not having a genuine spinner in their commentary panel for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Expressing his dissatisfaction on the absence of a spinner in the commentary panel, Sivaramakrishnan questioned how will people get to know about the intricacies of spin bowling.

“Not one genuine spinner in the commentary panel that is being played in India. How will people get educated on spin bowling. Does it mean only batsmen and some colour commentators know the game. Pathetic mix,” he wrote on X.
