Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was felicitated by the Telangana government and was allotted land in the state for winning the T20 World Cup 2024. Member of Parliament from the opposition party BRS, Kaushik Reddy, has demanded the same for Pragyan Ojha, Ambati Rayudu, and Jwala Gutta. For the unversed, Kaushik has played List A and First-Class cricket for Andhra Pradesh before venturing into politics.

Siraj received land and Group 1 level government job from the Congress party. As Kaushik demanded the same treatment for state treasures like former cricketers Ojha and Rayudu along with Badminton player Gutta, Rayudu politely declined the favour. The veteran took to his X account and quipped "As cricketers we have been very fortunate in terms of being financially able" and that it is important to support the ones who truly need it.

“Kaushik reddy garu I understand that it’s very important to promote sportspersons. I am very happy that Siraj has been recognised for his efforts towards Indian cricket. I haven’t ever asked or expected anything. It is very important to support all sports and sportspersons equally nd mainly the ones who needs support to improve and develop their skills to get better. As cricketers we have been very fortunate in terms of being financially able. I respectfully decline your request to the government to allot me land and please ask them to support the sportspersons who really need it,” Rayudu wrote in his post.

Siraj grappling with form in the limited-overs

Speaking of Siraj, the pacer is currently in Sri Lanka for the white ball tour after the T20 World Cup win. He has been struggling to come among the wickets off lately and his struggle was palpable in the marquee event. He played three games in the tournament and picked just one wicket before being benched for the remainder of the tournament.
