Indian skipper Rohit Sharma got frustrated with the production team during the fourth Test against England in Ranchi. Notably, just before tea on Day 1, Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery hit the pads of Ben Foakes. After a small discussion, the Indian team called for a review during which, the production team focused on Rohit’s face, which frustrated the 36-year-old. He asked the unit to focus on the DRS (ball-tracking technology) and not on his face.

They immediately cut off the camera and showed the replay, which clarified that the ball was missing the leg stump following which, Foakes resumed batting. Meanwhile, India lost all their reviews in the process as the visitors took firm control of the match, after a shaky start during the first session of the day.

Joe Root hits century in Ranchi amid criticism

In the first innings of the third Test in Rajkot, the former England skipper attempted a reverse-scoop, but it went straight to Yashasvi Jaiswal at second slip, which led to his dismissal and triggered England’s collapse. Many former cricketers and experts asked Joe Root to change his tactics and play according to the situation and not follow Bazball, instead being his usual self while occupying the crease.

In Ranchi, Root played as per the situation and hit a much-needed century, both for him as well as his team. The visitors were reduced to 112/5 at lunch and needed something special to come out of the danger of a collapse. Root took control of the situation and built an important partnership with Ben Foakes and later with Ollie Robinson. Courtesy of his ton, the Three Lions crossed the 300-run mark, which seemed difficult to attain at one point.

Meanwhile, Akash Deep was the star with the ball on Day 1. He picked up three crucial wickets of Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and, Zak Crawley in the opening session, which gave India a lot of momentum. Later on, Mohammed Siraj picked up a couple of wickets while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one each.

Overall, the hosts wouldn’t be too happy with their performance on Day 1. They picked up early wickets to put England on the backfoot but couldn’t capitalise on their dominant start. Root proved to be the rock-solid foundation they couldn’t unsettle.
