Livingstone sustained an injury during Pakistan Tests
Meanwhile, Tim David will be replacing England all-rounder Liam Livingstone for the remainder of the 2023 season. Livingstone could not take any part in the ongoing tournament due to a knee injury that he had sustained during the first Test against Pakistan last month.
With Livingstone’s unavailability, MI Cape Town desperately needed a batting all-rounder in the business end of the competition and therefore, they zeroed in on Tim David who also represented the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022.
The Singaporean cricketer who was roped in for a staggering INR 8.25 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction spent most of the tournament warming the bench. However, he did make the most of his opportunities when he was included in the playing XI.
In the eight matches that David got to play last season, he scored 186 runs averaging 37.2 at an outstanding strike rate of 216.28. With the consistency level shown by him in the shortest format, Cricket Australia (CA) also named him in the Australian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 at home.
The SA20 2023 which is currently on a week’s break will now be resuming on Thursday, February 2 with the MI Cape Town facing off against the Durban’s Super Giants at the Kingsmead in Durban. MI Cape Town are currently languishing at the fifth position in the six-team table having managed to win just three out of the seven matches that they played so far, with 13 points to their tally at a dismal NRR of -0.111.
