The opening game of the Pakistan Super League's eighth season turned out to be a cliffhanger as the defending champions, Lahore Qalandars, beat Multan Sultans by just one run. Apart from the nail-biting action on the pitch, a hilarious run-out miss by Multan Sultans’ Shahnawaz Dahani also managed to tickle the ribs of the fans.
The incident took place on the first ball of the 17th over in the first innings. Sikandar Raza tapped the first ball by Dahani and looked for a quick single, however, seeing Dahani quickly collect the ball, he immediately shouted no to his batting partner, Hussain Talat. But it was too late as Talat was already halfway through the pitch.
Seeing the batter way outside of his crease, the Pakistan seamer quickly collected the ball and ran towards the non-striker’s end to inflict the run out. However, despite being ahead of the batter on the way to the non-striker’s end, Dahani decided to throw the ball at the stumps which he missed horribly resulting in a reprieve for Talat.
Here's the video of the incident:

In reply, the Sultans got off to a rollicking start to their chase as openers Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan added 100 runs for the first wicket in 74 balls. Despite having a great start, Sultans struggled in their innings courtesy of some tight bowling by Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. They eventually fell one run short of their target as Lahore Qalandars got their title defence off to a great start.
Mohammed Rizwan was the top-scorer from Multan Sultans who scored 75 off 50 balls with the help of eight fours and one six. On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Zaman Khan and Hussain Talat picked up one wicket each for Lahore Qalandars.
