SL vs IRE: Dhananjaya de Silva grabs one-handed stunner to end Curtis Campher's innings during 2nd Test in Galle

Sri Lanka all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva took an excellent diving slip catch to end Curtis Campher's remarkable innings on Day 2 of the second Test against Ireland on Tuesday, April 25 at the Galle International Stadium in Sri Lanka. On Day 1 (April 24), Ireland skipper Andrew Balbirnie won the toss and chose to bat first. In their first innings, the visitors scored 319/4 in 90 overs.

Ireland started Day 2 extremely well, with 319 for the loss of four wickets even though Lorcan Tucker was dismissed by Vishwa Fernando in the first over of the day. Later, Campher took over the charge, scoring his maiden Test century off 209 deliveries and powered Ireland to a total of 492. The 24-year-old right-handed batter smashed 111 from 229 deliveries, including 15 boundaries and two maximums before being dismissed by Prabath Jayasuriya, with De Silva taking a fabulous catch.

Jayasuriya put the ball up on a length on middle and off stump on the third ball of the 138th over. The batter was unable to acquire a long enough stride and he hit it away from his body and got a heavy outside edge which drifted through to the first slip. 

The ball appeared to elude the fielder at first. De Silva, on the other hand, flung to his right and took a one-handed stunner. Notably, the crucial dismissal helped the hosts to restrict Ireland under 500.

Sri Lanka then responded strongly, with skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka both scoring centuries. The hosts reached 357/1 in 77 overs on Day 3 stumps. Meanwhile, Ireland will be hoping that someone on their team will rise up to help them level the series.  

In the first Test at Galle, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. The hosts scored 591, with Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, and Sadeera Samarawickrama scoring centuries. Ireland was bundled out for 143 and 168 in their first and second innings, respectively, as the hosts won the first Test by an innings and 280 runs.
