Hardik Pandya’s better half Natasa Stankovic has reacted to her cricketer husband's controversial dismissal in the first One Day International against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Unhappy with Hardik’s mode of dismissal, Natasa questioned the umpire's decision.
Even though Hardik Pandya could only manage to score 28 runs off 38 balls, he ensured to keep the scoreboard ticking for India by contributing with three fours before walking back to the pavilion.
What is all the fuss about Hardik Pandya's dismissal?
On the fourth ball of the 40th over, the star all-rounder who was supposedly in two minds while playing a shot attempted to work a length delivery bowled by Mitchell towards third man. However, he ended up missing the ball and the bails were lit up.
While the Kiwi players started celebrating, the on-field umpires did not look convinced. They referred the matter upstairs to check whether the ball had made contact with wicketkeeper Tom Latham’s gloves before the bails were dislodged.
The ultra-edge showed no involvement of the bat in any manner and the keeper’s gloves were also very close to the stumps when the ball went past the wickets which complicated things further. After going through multiple angles, the third umpire finally made the decision against the batter and Hardik Pandya had to walk back.
The decision, however, did not go down well with the passionate fans of the game including Hardik's wife Natasa and she took to social media to criticize this controversial dismissal.
Natasa Stankovic shared the image of Pandya’s doubtful dismissal in the 40th over off Daryl Mitchell on her Instagram story and wrote, "There was no bat involved, wasn't bowled out. So how's this out?"
While Hardik Pandya could not do much damage in the first game, the Kiwi bowlers could not escape the wrath of youngster Shubman Gill who looked in splendid touch. Gill, who had come into this contest on the back of 116 against Sri Lanka in the last game went on to register his maiden ODI double century.
