Former South Africa cricketer Jonty Rhodes known for his brilliant fielding skills, recently took to social media, sharing an insight into modern parenting.
Rhodes' statement echoes a growing concern – the diminishing connection between children and nature. In an era characterised by rapid technological advancements, the simple joys of exploring the outdoors and embracing silence seem to fade into the background.
As we all engage ourselves with modern-day commitments, the peacefulness of nature often takes a back seat. In a tweet, Rhodes expressed,
"These days, teaching kids to sit quietly and appreciate the power of nature, is something us parents fail to do."

This statement strikes a connection with the current generation's inclination towards the hustle and bustle of the digital age, often sidelining the importance of connecting with the natural world.
Rhodes' reflection on nurturing a genuine bond with nature gained added significance when he shared a snapshot of his youngest son, Nathan, with his tweet. The image serves as a reminder that fostering an appreciation for the environment is a responsibility that parents must prioritise in today's fast-paced world.
While Jonty Rhodes is renowned for his fielding prowess on the cricket field, he is also making an impact in coaching. In September 2020, he signed a contract to work for the Swedish Cricket Federation and moved to Sweden permanently.
In February 2022, he was also picked as a batting coach for Punjab Kings in addition to his job as a fielding coach. After the 2022 season of IPL, he was let go from his job along with other coaches when Punjab Kings and their main coach Anil Kumble went their separate ways. Before the start of the 2023 season of IPL, Jonty was hired by Lucknow Super Giants to be their fielding coach.
