Former Indian cricket skipper Sunil Gavaskar made a nostalgic trip to Sachin Railway Station in Surat, Gujarat, sparking fond reminiscences and stirring reactions from both fans and the legendary former India cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar. Gavaskar, in a playful nod to the station's name unintentionally honouring his cherished cricketer and personal favourite, Tendulkar, shared a delightful photo on Instagram, visibly thrilled to be standing in a place bearing his idol's name.

In his post, the Little Master cleverly acknowledged the station's origins, revealing that Sachin Railway Station owes its name to the cricket maestro along with the village of Sachin in the Surat district. He praised the foresight of those responsible for naming the station after his most favourite cricketer and favourite person. He captioned,

“What foresight of those in the last century to name a railway station near Surat after one of the all-time greats of our game and my favourite cricketer but more importantly my favourite person,” Gavaskar wrote on his Instagram handle.

Sachin railway station is not named after Sachin Tendulkar

Despite common perception, Sachin Railway Station isn't an ode to the cricket legend but owes its name to the village of Sachin in Surat. This village, now a bustling industrial centre, played a pivotal role in propelling the region's progress. Similarly, the visit stirred nostalgic echoes of Sunil Gavaskar's glorious cricketing journey. A trailblazer in the sport, he etched his name in history as the first player to breach the monumental 10,000-run mark in Test matches.

Beyond his stellar on-field exploits, his influence transcends cricket, leaving an indelible mark on the game. Tendulkar, who had expressed regret about not having the opportunity to play alongside his batting hero, resonates deeply with the bond these two cricketing icons share. The 74-year-old, who was part of India's World Cup glory in 1983, and Tendulkar, who replicated the feat in 2011, stand as a testament to the enduring legacy of Indian cricket.
