Team India physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain's contract terminated by BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has terminated the contract of Kamlesh Jain as Team India's head physiotherapist. Jain is currently serving a notice period, and the BCCI is expected to fill the vacant position in the near future.

As reported by India Today, the termination followed the India tour of Sri Lanka in 2026. The decision came amid growing concerns over recurring player injury problems within the squad.

Player injury concerns ahead of the Sri Lanka series

Jain's position had reportedly come under scrutiny due to repeated player breakdowns and a perceived dip in fitness standards. Concerns were also raised over frequent cramps and player fitness issues during the England tour that preceded the Sri Lanka assignment.

Several prominent players were unavailable or carrying fitness concerns ahead of the Sri Lanka Test series. Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out of the Tests with a left quadriceps injury, while Harshit Rana was also unavailable after returning from a lengthy lay-off. Jasprit Bumrah's fitness was a major concern, and both Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar had fitness issues before the series got underway.

India ultimately won the two-Test series against Sri Lanka 1-0. In the second Test, India enforced the follow-on, but Sri Lanka staged a final-day fightback, with Sonal Dinusha scoring his second century of the match to secure a draw for the hosts. The series result left India fifth in the World Test Championship standings.

Despite missing several regulars, young players Manav Suthar, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel made positive impressions during the series.

Jain was appointed as Team India's head physiotherapist in June 2022, joining the squad ahead of the India vs South Africa T20I series. He replaced Nitin Patel, who had been with the team until their last assignment before Jain's arrival. His appointment was confirmed by BCCI sources after he joined the side in the national capital.

Kamlesh Jain's background and appointment

Before his national team role, Jain had a 10-year association with Kolkata Knight Riders as their physiotherapist. He joined KKR as Assistant Physiotherapist from the 2012 IPL season and was promoted to Head Physio in July 2019. He also served as Head Physio at the Cricket Association of Bengal for six seasons from 2011 to 2016, working with the Senior Bengal Ranji team.

With Jain now serving out his notice period, the BCCI is set to identify a replacement to fill the head physiotherapist role within the Indian cricket support staff.
