Many CSK fans have made up their minds and have gotten an idea that MS Dhoni might not play the next edition of the tournament. The talks of Dhoni's retirement from IPL have been going on since years, but the veteran wicketkeeper-batter continues to lead his team Chennai Super Kings even now.

While attending an event alongwith members of the CSK fraternity, Dhoni was asked a question about his retirement plans, to which he responded in a quirky manner saying:

"There's lot of time to take that call (Retirement). Right now we have a lot of games and the coach will be under pressure if I say something."

Dhoni relinquished CSK’s captaincy before the start of IPL 2022, and handed over the baton to his main man Ravindra Jadeja. But things went haywire for CSK as neither could Jadeja do justice to the role, nor could he do well with his performances either with the bat or ball. Moreover, it was also seen that he dropped some easy catches, which proved that the all-rounder had been going through a lot of pressure.

As a result, Dhoni had to step back in as the captain, and Jadeja was later ruled out of the remainder of the tournament in the second half of IPL 2022. But things are going decently for the four-time champions in IPL 2023 as Dhoni has led the team to two wins, while they have also lost as many games thus far.

After CSK defeated Lucknow Super Giants in their second game of the tournament, MS Dhoni was very critical of the bowlers’ performances. Tushar Deshpande, for one, gave away several wides and no-balls and conceded many runs. Even in the campaign opener against Gujarat Titans, bowlers cost CSK the game. After the LSG game, during the post-match presentation, Dhoni gave a very stern warning to the bowlers when he said:

“What is important is to keep an eye as to what the opposition bowlers are doing. One more thing is they'll have to bowl no no-balls or extra wides. Or they'll have to play under a new captain. It will be my second warning and then I'll be off (laughs and smiles).”

Since then, many have been talking about Dhoni’s retirement, and feel that the veteran won’t participate in the cash-rich event next year. But now, after the 41-year-old’s sarcastic reply, it is only Dhoni who knows the slightest of information about his future with the franchise, and only time will tell what is to come next.
