Tushar Deshpande’s bittersweet IPL 2023 campaign

Deshpande returned with 21 wickets at an economy of 9.92 in 16 appearances to end up as the highest wicket-taker for his team. However, the 28-year-old leaked 56 runs in his four overs in the summit clash against Hardik Pandya’s Titans and failed to get any breakthroughs in the final.

Further, the pacer also made his place in an unceremonious tally as he conceded the most number of runs in a single season IPL. In his 16 appearances for the franchise, the Mumbai-born pacer gave away 564 runs, surpassing Prasidh Krishna’s record of 551 runs in the 2022.

Despite this, Deshpande concluded the campaign as the third-highest wicket-taker amongst pacers in IPL 2023. Gujarat Titans' pacer Mohammed Shami won the Purple Cap for picking 28 wickets at an economy of 8.03 in 17 matches, while his teammamte Mohit Sharma finished with 27 wickets at the second spot.
