UP-W vs MI-W: Alyssa Healy shellshocked as bails don't dislodge for lucky Harmanpreet Kaur

Mumbai Indians continued their winning run in the ongoing Women’s Premier League against UP Warriorz on March 12, Sunday as they won the match by eight wickets. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a brilliant knock of 53* off 33 balls and took her team home with 15 balls to spare. However, she had her fair share of luck during the innings as she got saved with the bails not coming off after she missed a delivery by Anjali Sarvani in the 11^th over of the innings.

The incident took place on the third ball of the 11^th over as Harmanpreet tried to glance the delivery which was going down the leg side. However, she missed the ball altogether and wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy shouted in excitement. The replays showed that the ball hit the leg stump on its way to the wicketkeeper’s gloves and the bails got out of the groove but didn’t come off.

The entire UP team was in disbelief seeing what had transpired and Harmanpreet got a life while being on seven off 11 balls.

The Mumbai captain made full use of her life as she put on a match-winning 106-run stand off 61 balls with Nat Sciver-Brunt. Her innings was studded with nine fours and one six which helped her side win their fourth consecutive match of the tournament. 

She was well supported by Brunt who smacked a sensational 45 off 31 balls clobbering six fours and a six in her innings. Courtesy of their win, Mumbai continued their reign at the top of the table having won all of their four matches so far.

During the first innings, UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy won the toss and elected to bat first. They put on 159/6 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of half-centuries from the skipper and Tahlia McGrath. At one stage it looked like UP will easily cross the 180-run mark, however, Saika Ishaque brought Mumbai back in the game by dismissing both Healy and McGrath in the same over restricting UP to 141/4 after 16.5 overs.

They could only score 18 runs in the last 19 balls and finished on 159/6 in 20 overs. Saika Ishaque finished with figures of 3/33 in four overs while Amelia Kerr also picked up two wickets for Mumbai.
