The CPL's official X account shared footage of the dismissal, and the clip spread quickly. Phillips is recognised for his ability to cover ground at exceptional pace and for maintaining safe hands whether he is positioned inside the 30-yard circle or patrolling the boundary. His presence in any side is considered capable of saving at least 5 to 10 runs per match across formats, and this moment underlined precisely why that reputation holds.

Phillips' fielding impact in Match 22

The catch arrived during the second innings of the contest. Chasing a DLS-revised target of 182 runs in 16 overs, Narine attempted a pull shot in front of square off the first delivery of the third over, bowled by Dwaine Pretorius. The ball left the bat quickly and flat, but Phillips reacted in time and pouched it with one hand at mid-wicket. Guyana's fielding effort complemented their batting, and the Amazon Warriors sealed the result by a margin of nine runs.

Phillips had joined Guyana Amazon Warriors as one of five overseas players confirmed by the franchise on July 13, 2026. The overseas group comprised captain Imran Tahir, Pretorius, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Nabi and Phillips. His inclusion came after a side injury had kept him out of New Zealand's ODI series in the Caribbean and the Global Super League that preceded the CPL.

In the first innings, Shimron Hetmyer slammed a blistering century, scoring 111 not out off 43 balls with the help of eight fours and nine sixes. Guyana finished on 185/5. Despite whirlwind cameos from Nicholas Pooran and Alex Hales in the second innings, the home side fell short of the revised target.
