During the first Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Proteas skipper Aiden Markram was hit by an unplayable delivery from Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud.

South African openers Tony de Zorzi and Markram walked into bat in pursuit of getting a huge lead in the tie. But Mahmud delivered a devastating blow to the visitors' confidence in the very first over the innings. His length delivery, angled into the stumps, caught Markram completely off guard.

The South African captain, anticipating outward movement, misjudged the line, allowing the ball by Hasan Mahmud to sneak through the gap between bat and pad and crashed into the middle stump.

Proteas batting on 65/2 by Tea on Day 1

The match began with the hosts winning the toss and electing to bat. However, their decision backfired spectacularly as the visitor's bowling attack, including Kagiso Rabada, Wiaan Mulder, and Keshav Maharaj, tore through the opposition batting lineup. Mahmudul Hasan Joy's 30-run knock was the only notable inning as Bangladesh was bundled for just 106 runs.

By tea on Day 1, Proteas had reached 65/2 in 16 overs, with Tony de Zorzi (19*) and David Bedingham (9*) at the crease. The loss of Tristan Stubbs for a well-made 23 added to their woes, leaving them trailing by 41 runs with eight wickets in hand.

Meanwhile, Markram was announced to lead the side for the opening Test in place of Temba Bavuma. The latter had been ruled out of the first Test after scans revealed a muscle strain in his left triceps.
