Day 3 of the County Championship Division 2 match between Derbyshire and Northamptonshire witnessed a truly bizarre dismissal as Northants opener Ricardo Vasconcelos was dismissed unusually after losing control of his bat and getting bowled.
The left-handed batter was batting on 41 off 65 balls when the incident took place. Facing Derbyshire captain David Lloyd's off-spin from around the wicket, Vasconcelos came down the pitch looking to hit the ball over deep mid-wicket.
However, he missed the ball completely and in the process, lost his grip on the bat which went flying towards square leg. The Northamptonshire opener could only look on in disbelief before walking back to the pavilion with his side 90-1 after 22.2 overs of their second innings.

Northamptonshire to face Yorkshire next
It was a strange day in the field for Vasconcelos, who had earlier dropped Derbyshire's Brooke Guest when the batter was on 29 in the visitor's first innings total of 362. Northamptonshire had gained control by dismissing Derbyshire, with Ben Sanderson taking 5-76.
Northants hold a commanding 255-run lead. Emilio Gay will resume on 89 not out, with Karun Nair set to rejoin him on 37. The home side will likely look to score quick runs and set up a declaration to try and force a result.
