India's dream run in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 continued as the former two-time champions outplayed Sri Lanka on Thursday, November 2, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, winning by a whopping 302 runs. In a viral video on social media, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was seen gifting a shoe to a fan after the memorable victory. The Wankhede Stadium was packed to the rafters on Thursday, as Team India took on Sri Lanka in the hope of bagging their seventh win in a row and sealing their spot in the semi-finals.

Bollywood celebrities like Shahid Kapoor and Kunal Khemu were also present in the stands, joining the fans in cheering for the 'Men in Blue'. Legendary cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Muttiah Muralitharan also graced the occasion with their presence. Sri Lanka wouldn't have had fond memories of their previous meeting against India as they lost by 10 wickets in the finals of the Asia Cup in September. Kusal Mendis won the toss and invited India to bat first.

His opposite number, Rohit Sharma, departed early but Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill formed a mesmerising 189-run partnership before perishing for 88 and 92, respectively. Shreyas Iyer finally did justice to his potential as he scored a scintillating 82 off just 56 balls, hitting three fours and six sixes. Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with a handy cameo of 35 runs off 24 balls as India posted a mammoth 357/8.

Pacers helped Team India reclaim pole spot in ODI World Cup 2023 after Sri Lanka mauling

Mohammed Siraj, who had picked up a six-for in the Asia Cup final, unlocked his A-game for the first time in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 and dismissed three out of the first four Sri Lankan batters. This was after Jasprit Bumrah sent Pathum Nissanka packing off the first ball of the second innings. The in-form Mohammed Shami was thrown into the mix in the 10th over and he continued his merry run in the showpiece event, picking up five-for to dismantle the Sri Lankan side.

Notably, only three Sri Lankan batters reached double digits as they were bundled out for 55 by the hosts. After this one-sided encounter, India reclaimed the top spot on the points table. They will now head to Eden Gardens, Kolkata to face South Africa on Sunday, November 5.
