With Chennai Super Kings completing their final home game of the season at Chepauk in the league stage, MS Dhoni was seen doing a special lap of honor alongwith members of the team, for all the fans who came to cheer as well as support the team at their home ground.
CSK skipper’s this act also made many wonder that this might be the last time they might be seeing Dhoni play in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. However, as far as the CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, is concerned he speculated that the former Indian captain might be playing in the next season as well and also urged the fans to continue their support like the way they have done in the past.
"We believe MS Dhoni is going to play next season as well so I hope fans will continue to support us like every time (translation from Tamil)," CSK CEO Kasi Kasi Viswanathan told in a video which was posted by the franchise on Twitter.
Though it was not the ideal way in which the team would have wanted to end their home leg but they are still among the favorites to win the title this year. While Captain Cool has continued to play a significant role as a leader and behind the stumps, his impact as well as his role as a batter has changed over time. This season, the 41-year-old has batted at the No. 8 position on numerous occasions just for the sake of providing finishing touches to the innings.
Meanwhile, the wicketkeeper-batter has also been dealing with a couple of minor injuries, raising questions about whether he will be ready to play again next year. Thus, Viswanathan's words are incredibly encouraging for the fans who want to see Dhoni play in the next editions of the IPL as well.
With the loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in their penultimate game of the season, the four-time IPL champions have found themselves in a spot of bother as they have a must-win situation when they play Delhi Capitals in their last league match of the season.
