Shahid Afridi expressed his elation on becoming 'youngest grandfather' as his son-in-law Shaheen Afridi and daughter Ansha Afridi welcomed a baby boy on Saturday, August 24.

Pakistan's pace-bowling spearhead Shaheen and his wife Ansha Afridi, one of Shahid's daughters, announced the birth of their firstborn son, whom they named Ali Yar. Since Shahid's daughter gave birth to a baby boy, the former Pakistan all-rounder became a grandfather. Shaheen took to his social media to announce the birth of their first child and soon the congratulatory messages started coming in. The legendary Shahid was overcome with emotion after seeing all the heartwarming wishes.

Earlier, Pakistan Test coach Jason Gillespie had said that Shaheen could miss the home Test series against Bangladesh to attend the birth of his first child. However, the left-arm seamer decided to play the ongoing first Test in Rawalpindi, which concludes on Sunday, August 25.

Shaheen got engaged to Ansha back in 2021. They got married earlier this year, in February, in an intimate nikah ceremony.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) shared a video of the wicket and Shaheen's unique celebration on their social media handles and wrote: "That Celebration @iShaheenAfridi’s first wicket after the birth of his son!"

The 24-year-old will leave the squad and depart for Karachi on Sunday night after the completion of the first Test. He will rejoin the team ahead of the second Test in Rawalpindi, starting August 30.
