When a massive fire swept through the four-star hotel Regent Plaza in Karachi back in 2016, 11 people lost their lives and sent shockwaves across Pakistan. Over 70 people suffered injuries due to this accident which took place early in the morning. Pakistan cricketer Sohaib Maqsood too was one of the survivors of this horrendous incident, who also managed to save a family.

It took closely three hours for the fire to be brought under control and a lot of damage was already done. Sohail Maqsood, who was a part of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy, was alongside his friends residing in the hotel temporarily. He somehow managed to get out of the building safely but also ensured he rescued a family.

“It was a very dangerous situation; we were there as we were part of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy tournament, I alongside my friends rescued a family including children, one was a five years old and the other one was probably three years old,” said Sohaib, who is currently representing the Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).

It was the proudest moment of my life

Sohaib also added that it was the proudest moment of his life, as quoted in Business Recorder. To bring a smile on people’s faces, especially children is absolutely priceless and Maqsood recollected that incident as a much more memorable and satisfying moment in his life than all the centuries and wickets he has taken on the field.

“We rescued them and ourselves, but when we saw the smiles on the faces of those children after they were saved, that was the proudest moment of life, more than all the centuries and achievements on the cricket field,” he added.

The 30-year-old had represented the national side in 26 ODIs and 20 T20Is. His presence in the middle order was promising but somehow failed to deliver the desired output. The all-rounder has a stellar first-class record, which always keeps him in contention for a National call-up. It really is surprising that he never played a Test match for Pakistan.
