Somerset have given themselves a boost ahead of the NatWest T20 Blast which gets underway on 7th July 2017. The side has acquired the services of hard-hitting New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson who is renowned for his ability to play the shortest format of the game.

The left-handed batsman was forced to the sidelines in 2015 while being a part of Somerset as a result of a back injury. Anderson also featured in this year’s IPL, where he donned the Delhi Daredevils shirt but failed to make that much of an impact. Delhi Daredevils finished the league stages in the bottom half of the table sitting at the 6th position.

However, Anderson has joined hands with coach Matthew Maynard again and has agreed to play for Somerset.  The 26-year-old all-rounder is expected to be available for all the matches of the season while Dean Elgar of South Africa will miss the first few of them due to national commitments.

Corey Anderson became the first batsman to break Shahid Afridi’s record for the fastest ODI hundred which was scored off just 37 balls. Anderson shattered the West Indian bowling attack and stormed to a 36 ball ton in 2014.

What Anderson had to say:

Looking forward to the upcoming season Anderson believes that Somerset have a team strong enough to win the title and is eager to contribute to his best.

“Having been unable to fulfil a contract at Somerset a few years ago due to injury, I’m excited to finally get the opportunity to play for such a distinguished club.

“Somerset have a strong squad that are looking to challenge on all fronts this season and I hope I can play my part as we push for the T20 title.”

Maynard added: “He’s an exciting player and a very talented cricketer who strikes the ball exceptionally well.”
