Soumya Sarkar ruled out of ODIs and T20s series against Zimbabwe: Soumya Sarkar, a prolific batsman and one of the most consistent players of Bangladesh to whom they owe credit for their few victories in their home series against South Africa and India, has been ruled out of the 3 ODIs and 2 T20s due to a strain on his left side which he picked up during a training session on Tuesday at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium while practicing bowling in the nets. He didn’t turn up for the training session yesterday despite he planned to do so.

BCB’s senior physician Dr Debashis Chowdhury said: “The player complained of discomfort while bowling during practice on Tuesday. An MRI result has confirmed a left side strain (internal/muscle). Such injuries take around 2 to 3 weeks to heal and therefore he will miss the matches against Zimbabwe. He will begin his rehab under the BCB’s medical team as soon as the pain subsides.”

He has been temporarily replaced by Imrul Kayes for the first two ODIs against Zimbabwe after this injury.

Soumya Sarkar has almost been a regular member of the Bangladesh squad for his consistency, aggressive nature and timing of his shots and he’s the highest scorer for Bangladesh in ODIs this year with 672 runs.

Imrul Kayes, Sarkar’s teammate from Khulna Division in first-class cricket. He last played in ODIs against India during the World Cup after which he didn’t get an opportunity to don the national colours in ODIs but has been the highest scorer for Bangladesh in Test Cricket this year.  He’s known as one of the strong openers of Bangladesh along with the aggressive Tamim Iqbal. He just has a lone ODI century of 101 against New Zealand in Christchurch back in 2010. Hopefully for the Bangla tigers he’ll be back with a bang.
