The love-hate relation between former India captain Sourav Ganguly and current head coach Ravi Shastri is well documented. The entire Indian cricketing fraternity is well aware of the fact that the two former cricketers do not get along. Ganguly and Shastri have been at loggerheads since the conclusion of India’s coach selection process in 2016.

Ganguly, who is set to take over as BCCI president later this month, was a part of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) that was given the task of selecting the head coach. The CAC had eventually picked Anil Kumble over Shastri. And Shastri was not at all amused with the selection. He had vented his frustration by saying that Ganguly had not attended his interview.

Ganguly had then hit back by saying that Shastri should have attended the interview in person. Shastri could not attend the interview since he was vacationing in Bangkok. Since then the two especially Ganguly have not wasted any opportunity to take a swipe at each other. And Ganguly was at it once again.

The incident happened when a reporter asked the soon-to-be-elected BCCI president whether he had spoken to Shastri. In reply, Ganguly hilariously said as quoted by Outlook India, “Why, what has Ravi Shastri done now?”. In fact, Ganguly himself burst into laughter after replying to the question.

All is well?

Keeping the latest comment from Sourav Ganguly aside, it seems like the former captain has moved on. When Shastri was re-selected as India’s head coach, Ganguly had called it the right choice. At the same time, Ganguly said that Shastri now needs to repay the faith shown in him. Shastri’s tenure will come to an end in 2021.

“Ravi is the right choice. They didn’t have too many choices as not many had applied (for the coach’s job)… Ravi has been doing this for five years, and has now been given this responsibility for two more years. I don’t think anyone else in history has got such a long time with the team. He is the right choice, but now he has to repay the faith placed in him. He has two T20 World Cups coming up (in 2020 and 2021), and in such big tournaments, India needs to find ways to win,” Sourav Ganguly had said.
