Former India captain Sourav Ganguly again showered praises on current Indian Test captain Virat Kohli and said he has taken batting to a whole new level. His hard work and dedication combined with his rigorous fitness regime have paid off rich dividends and it is quite apparent from the rich vein of form Kohli has been in 2016. Irrespective of format, country and pitches Kohli has scored runs at will and has made world class bowling attacks look clueless.
In an interaction with ESPN Cricinfo Ganguly, described Virat Kohli and the reason behind his indomitable form across all formats in 2016. Mentioning Virat Kohli’s stupendous 167 at Vizag, Sourav said that there was a friend of his who visited the same gym where Virat Kohli went to work out after scoring that big knock. Ganguly’s friend being a cricketer walked up to the modern legend and asked what was the reason behind him coming to the gym after playing such a big knock?
The reply was quite expected from a player of Virat’s stature. He calmly said that the main reason behind coming to the gym was to train the body harder after being out in the middle for so long which will help him to hit double hundreds and triple hundreds in Test cricket.
Sourav was delighted with Kohli’s approach and lauded the man for his sheer dedication. Here was a man who was ready to put in that extra yard, ready to work long hours in the gym just to take his fitness to a different level. He has been a sensation for the modern generation and his will to succeed at the highest level has made him what he is today.
Courtesy his brilliant double century in the 4th Test against England in Mumbai, Virat Kohli notched up his 3rd double century in his Test career and also the third in 2016. His stupendous form has also enabled him to cross 50+ average in all three formats of the game which will remain a highlight of his career.
Watch Ganguly describe the incident himself:
