Cricket Association of Bengal’s (CAB) President and former India skipper Sourav Ganguly was impressed with the pitch rolled out in Ranchi for the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He also feels Steve Smith won a very good toss and the decision to bat first was proved right by the way he led their batting charge.

Ganguly speaking to India Today after Smith’s magnificent knock suggested Team India tactics to tackle the tourists on Day 2. At stumps, Australia had reached 299/4 with skipper Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell remaining unbeaten. He also believed the run machine Kohli’s recent slump should not be a worry.

“I think the pitch played superbly that’s what you expect on Day 1 of a Test match in India and Australia. Good toss to win which is always the case in India. Australia had the best part of the surface to play on” Ganguly said in regard to the proceedings of Day 1.

Speaking on the heated DRS controversy, Ganguly said that he personally would not pay any attention to it and focus more on the game.

“That’s happened and that is a part and parcel of the sport. I wouldn’t pay too much important to it. Virat Kohli said at the press conference yesterday that “its game time and lets move on” That’s exactly what mature people do. They’ve moved on”

When asked why Kohli is struggling on the pitch when his Australian counterpart is in the form of his life, Ganguly opined that there will also come a time when the opposite will happen, i.e. Kohli will score and Smith won’t be able to.

“Virat Kohli will score I think it’s just one of those times when one person gets the runs and the other one doesn’t. There will be a time when Kohli will score runs and Smith won’t. Steve Smith likes batting against India to be honest. He loves Indian bowling you have to give him credit” one of India’s finest captains concluded.
