India and England are ready to face-off in the third Test of the five-match series at Trent Bridge on Saturday. While the hosts have already announced their playing XI, their opponents haven’t revealed anything. There will surely be a few changes to India’s line-up as Rishabh Pant looks set to make his Test debut even as Jasprit Bumrah will also return to the setup. However, Sourav Ganguly feels that Karun Nair is the best option as the sixth batsman which will also beef up the middle-order.

The batsmen failing to come to the terms with the conditions is the prime reason why the visitors are struggling in this series. While the openers are looked clueless against the new ball, the middle-order, apart from Virat Kohli, hasn’t been able to tackle at all. There might be a temptation to go in with an extra batsman but Nair wasn’t seen much in the nets batting as well and the five-bowler theory should continue for them.

Dada also backed Dhawan to come back

Sourav Ganguly felt that India might need an extra batsman at Trent Bridge where the conditions always assist always help the seam and swing bowlers. He also backed Shikhar Dhawan to come back at the top of the order and was hoping that one of the openers counter-attacks early on to just put the bowlers on the backfoot.

“India will need a good start at the top which has not happened yet. Whether a Dhawan instead of Vijay will help them to counter-attack is another question, but whoever is entrusted with the job will need to stand tall and that will provide respite to the middle-order to take the fight back to England. Will India play Karun Nair as the sixth batsman? That could be a good option,” he wrote in his column for the Times of India.

A lot has been said about the team combinations of Team India and the captain Virat Kohli will take the final decision now who more often than not surprises everyone.
