Sourav Ganguly was given a pleasant surprise by Aamir Khan years back

One meeting Aamir will remember for a long time.

As one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket history, Sourav Ganguly, turned 45 on July 8, the entire nation celebrated the day with wishes for the Prince of Kolkata batsman and made sure #HappyBirthdayDada trended on Twitter all day. Currently, Ganguly is occupied with the task of appointing the head coach for the Indian team, that will be announced today, along with the other members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.

Dada is known for instilling faith in Men in Blue to perform in overseas conditions and ushered in a new phase of Indian cricket by placing his faith in talented youngsters. He took over the captaincy when Indian cricket was hit by the match-fixing scandal. But his vision, mixed with passion and aggression made the team a force to reckon with alongside the giants of the cricket world and brought about a revolution.

The incident

Years back, an interesting encounter took place between two iconic celebrities from the field of entertainment and cricket, Amir Khan and Ganguly. Amir’s self-confessed favourite sport has been cricket and is a fan of Ganguly. During a visit to Kolkata, the actor decided to go and meet the Prince of Kolkata at his home but to his dismay, he was stopped by his security guards from entering the house.

The said incident took place way back in 2009, Aamir was in Kolkata to promote his movie with different looks. Because he was unrecognisable, the guards stopped him when he landed on Dada’s doorstep in disguised. He did not reveal his true identity and waited in the wee hours to meet him. But what followed was only memories to cherish for the two when Ganguly returned home and immediately met Aamir and asked him to come inside.

Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao also joined the two for a meal at Dada’s house.
