Making an addition to the already announced squad for the tour to India, Cricket South Africa added Janneman Malan to the squad, taking the total number of travellers to India to 16 for the three-match One-day International series.

Cricket South Africa on the 2 March had announced a 15-member squad that was supposed to travel to India. Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen made a return to the ODI team and it was also announced that Tabraiz Shamsi would not travel with the team to India, as his wife is expecting a baby. This gave a chance to George Linde to get his maiden call up for joining the Protean team. Quinton de Kock was announced to be the captain of the side for all the three matches.

Now, adding one more player to the team, Cricket South Africa, on Saturday announced through their Twitter handle, that Janneman Malan will be added and now a 16 member squad will be touring India. This decision came after Malan grabbed everyone’s eyeballs by scoring match-winning 129-run knock in an ODI against Australia.

In the second match of the three-match series against Australia, South Africa were set a total of 272 to chase by the Aussies. Opening the batting for the Proteas, Malan, smashed 129 runs off 139 deliveries stitching two partnerships in the process. He partnered with JT Smuts and David Miller to add 91 and 90 runs respectively. He made sure that his team gained an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series, which was later converted into a 3-0 whitewash of the Aussies.

The Proteas will leave for India on the 8th March

Cricket South Africa’s Tweet read, ‘Proteas opening batsman, Janneman Malan has been included into the team’s ODI tour to India. They will now travel with a 16-man squad for the three-match series taking place in Dharamshala, Lucknow and Kolkata.’ It was also added that the South African team will be leaving for India on the 08th of March.

While in India, the Proteas are scheduled to play three One Day International matches, scheduled to be held at Lucknow, Kolkata and Dharamshala. The first match of the series will be played in Dharamshala, followed by matches at Lucknow and Kolkata on the 15th and 18th of March respectively.

The South Africans will be coming into the series with high spirits as they recently whitewashed the Australian team in a three-match One Day International series, while the Indians have a lot to work on, as things did not go their way on their last outing to New Zealand. The Virat Kohli led team, lost the One Day International series against New Zealand by a margin of 3-0 and will be looking to make a strong comeback against the Proteas.

South Africa squad: Quinton de Kock (c & wk), Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Faf du Plessis, Kyle Verreynne, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Jon-Jon Smuts, Andile Phehlukwayo, Lungi Ngidi, Lutho Sipamla, Beuran Hendricks, Anrich Nortje, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Janneman Malan.
