For Australia Aaron Finch will open the innings along with David Warner. Australia have left out all-rounder Shane Watson who did remarkably well in the Big Bash and followed it up well in the series against India.
There was so much talk about Dale Steyn ahead of the series but he is missing from the South African line-up. Hashim Amla hasn’t found a place either, Quinton de Kock comes in while Kyle Abbott has retained his spot.
Playing XI –
South Africa:
Quinton de Kock (wk), AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis (C), Jean-Paul Duminy, Rilee Rossouw, David Miller, David Wiese, Chris Morris, Kyle Abbott, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir
Australia:
David Warner, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Steven Smith (C), Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Peter Nevill (wk), John Hastings, Adam Zampa, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Andrew Tye
Australia won the toss and have opted to bat first in the 1st T20I against South Africa.
It’s an important competition for both the teams, this will not just give them the practice ahead of the World T20 in India but also gives them an opportunity to try out the combinations.
They will have different challenges in the mega event but it is believed that South African skipper Faf du Plessis has asked the curator to prepare wickets that reflect sub-continent conditions. Keeping that in mind we can expect the series to be high-scoring with the spinners also having a role to play.
