The absence of big stars didn’t affect South Africa’s chances of defeating Sri Lanka in the 2nd T20I and clinch the series with one game still to be played. Reeza Hendricks (65) and Rassie van der Dussen (64) scored the fifties while JP Duminy’s 17-ball 33* pushed the Proteas total to 180/3. The Sri Lankans were six down for 62 by halfway stage. Isuru Udana took the responsibility with the bat as he smashed six sixes and eight fours on his way through to a 48-ball 84* but could only push them to a total of 164/9.

All the major stats and numbers recorded during the Centurion T20I between South Africa and Sri Lanka:

Udana plunders records:

1 – The unbeaten 84-run knock by Isuru Udana is the highest individual score while batting at No.8 or lower position in all Twenty20 cricket. Abongile Sodumo scored an unbeaten 79 for Border against Eastern Province while batting at No.8 during a 2011 T20 in East London.

1 – Udana is the only player to score 60+ in a T20I while batting at No.8 or lower position. Simi Singh’s unbeaten 57 while batting at No.8 for Ireland during last year’s T20I against the Netherlands was the previous highest T20I score. In fact, Udana is one of the four players to score more than 80 runs in a T20I innings while batting at No.6 or lower.

68 – Udana scored 68 runs through boundaries itself. Only David Miller (82 runs out of 101* vs Bangladesh, 2017) and Mohammad Nabi (78 runs out of 89 vs Ireland, 2017) have scored more runs in boundaries than him while batting at No.5 or lower position in a T20I.

84* – The 84* by Udana is the joint highest T20I score by a Sri Lankan while batting outside the top three. Asela Gunaratne also scored an unbeaten 84 while batting at No.5 during the 2017 Geelong T20I against Australia. Mahela Jayawardene’s 89 against England at No.3 in the 2014 WT20 is the only higher T20I score other than the openers for Sri Lanka than Udana’s 84*.

A record partnership towards the end:

102 – Runs aggregated by Sri Lanka after losing their 6th wicket in this game; the joint most any team scored after losing their 6th wicket in a T20I. Pakistan also aggregated 102 runs for the last four wickets during the 2013 Abu Dhabi T20I against Sri Lanka.

116 – The partnership of 116 between Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen is the first century stand for the 2nd wicket in T20Is against Sri Lanka. Overall, this is the 4th highest partnership by a pair for any wicket against Sri Lanka.

Morris gets a new milestone:

202 – Chris Morris completed 200 wickets in Twenty20 cricket with first of the three wickets he bagged in this game. He thus became only the 5th South African to claim 200 wickets in the Twenty20 format.
