The Virat Kohli led Indian team has been in incredible form this home season. The Men in Blue registered comprehensive victories defeating all the formidable opponents and is currently looking to extend their dominion in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka.

While the batting unit has delivered as it always does, the surprise act was the crop of bowlers brimming with confidence and tenacity. Fair to say, without the imperative contribution of the bowling department, India wouldn’t have thrived against the world class opponents.

However, although the Indian cricket team is brimming with young fast bowlers, who will prove to be a big asset during overseas tours, the search for a good left-arm seamer is still on.

It could well be a coincidence, but Barinder Sran, the lanky pacer, was one of the bowlers called in for the Indian team nets in Mohali on Tuesday, a day before the second ODI against Sri Lanka. The left-arm pacer from Mohali played six ODIs and two T20Is for India in 2016. Touted as a someone with the talent to serve the team for long, Sran has been plagued with injuries that kept him subdued and out of the Indian team.

Dhoni excited to see Sran bowling at the nets

It was the Indian coach Ravi Shastri, who eventually asked for Sran to be called in, asking the pacer’s Punjab teammate, Siddharth Kaul, who’s in the Indian squad for the ODI series, to contact him.

Following the call-up, an upbeat Sran was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times, “Shastri Sir also enquired about my stint with Punjab this season. I could play just three matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Now my focus is on the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Tournament. A comeback to the Indian team is on my mind.”

The 25-year-old speedster bowled extensively to Manish Pandey and MS Dhoni in the nets. Dhoni was thrilled to see Sran bowl at him and went on to laud the pacer for his skillset.
