Shanthakumaran Sreesanth has sprung into the news with his debut movie ‘Team 5’slated to release on July 14. The former cricketer turned actor has pinned his hopes high on his movie. Sreesanth took to acting after he was handed a life ban by the BCCI on charges of spot-fixing in the IPL. The ban veered his life on to a different track and he chose to be an actor for survival.

Sreesanth’s cricketing career reached its zenith when he got selected for the inaugural T20 tournament in 2007 in South Africa where he made some crucial contributions with the ball and helped India win their maiden T20 title. He was also picked up for the 2011 ICC World Cup later. These two moments were the only talking points of his career.

The Kerela speedster brought his own downfall after getting involved in the IPL match-fixing. He had in him what was required to be a lethal fast bowler. And his career was going along on a sweet note. But alas!! He couldn’t handle the glamor and money involved in IPL and fell victim to it. He got carried away and wasted what would have been a bright future. Sourav Ganguly rightly said that Sreesanth wasted his talent.

About the movie

After the ban, the volatile cricketer tried his hand at acting. Knocking on the doors of potential Telegu and Tamil directors, he finally landed himself a role in a Malayalam flick ‘Team 5’. Directed by Suresh Govind, the story of the movie revolves around five professional bikers and their lives. The movie garnered some hype from the Keralites and Sreesanth is hopeful of a successful run.

Staring opposite Sreesanth is Nikki Galrani as the female lead. The movie is produced by Raj and the music is composed by renowned composer Gopi Sunder.
