Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers have been making a mockery of some of the best batting attacks in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). A few days ago, they beat Mumbai Indians defending a total as low as 118. They had bundled the opponent for 87 runs. Yesterday, Kane Williamson-led side yet again proved why they’re a very dangerous bowling unit when they defended the total of 132 runs even after the opposition losing the first wicket after a 50-plus partnership.

Skipper Williamson praised his bowlers and said that he was lucky to have local players who are performing brilliantly for the team. While speaking post-match he said, “The bowlers have been operating very well, they know their roles very well. We are fortunate with our bowling depth. Very lucky to have the local talent.”

Want to maintain the same trend with bowl: Williamson

He applauded the bowlers for the kind of fight they created in the match, Williamson felt that going forward, he will have to take a few tough decisions. “Some good tough decisions to make going into the next few matches. You always want more, but the boys have been fantastic in the way they fought with the ball especially on this kind of a pitch. We want to maintain the same trend for the rest of the tournament,” the New Zealander added.

Notably, the spin attack which consists of the likes of Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan has produced terrific results for Hyderabad while the Indian bowlers in Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul, and Basil Thampi have done their job accurately. Interestingly, one of their main bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t played the last two games where the Hyderabad-based franchise shown their bowling prowess.

However, Williamson added that he’d hope for a better performance from the batsmen of the side. He also added that while it’s good to win while defending such totals, it’d be great for them if the batsman put on few more runs on the board.

“It’s nice to be able to defend these totals. We didn’t bowl well in the powerplay, but we did well to squeeze it towards the end. We want to be a little bit smarter with the bat. It’s about getting 145s and 155s on these kinds of surfaces. Competitive totals on these kinds of surfaces,” said the Kiwi skipper who has scored the most runs for Hyderabad.
