The Delhi Capitals’ were at their dominating best in the first half of the tournament, although come the second leg of the league, issues have started to pop up, and they are coming after two straight losses on the trot. The Capitals’ think-tank, led by the fierce Ricky Ponting must be deliberating over where and how things have ceased to work for them.

Although, their toil in the initial phase has granted them the luxury of comfort and they already have a foot inside the door of playoffs, with 14 points in 11 games.  That said, any complacency at this stage would be foolish as DC still need to add two points, which will confirm their qualification apart from elevating them to the top of the table and they would be keen to do that coming up against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dubai International Stadium.

On the other hand, the Sunrisers Hyderabad are up against a massive challenge, with only three fixtures left for them. Not only do they need to win all of these, but also hope for some other results to go their way as merely wins won’t assure them a playoff berth. The harder part of the challenge is that they need to face the top three sides on the table- Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

For inspiration, SRH might want to look at the team (read Kings XI Punjab) that snatched a victory from them in their last fixture and has managed to register an untarnished streak of five wins. The bemusing 12-run defeat in a 127-run chase against KXIP must hurt them as they have strangulated the margins for themselves by losing a match that was indeed theirs to lose.

While the Delhi Capitals will look to get back to winning ways and confirm their entry in the playoffs officially, the Sunrisers Hyderabad would want to script a turnaround before they run out of time.

Pitch and conditions

The pitches at not just Dubai but all the venues have slowed down, and the scoring patterns have seen a sharp decline in the recent past. Though there has been some initial movement for the quicks, the spinners are becoming increasingly dominant as the tournament is progressing. The ground dimensions at Dubai have had a role in the game, and the batsmen must be wary of that. Despite the possibility of dew, the teams would prefer batting first on winning the toss.

Playing Combinations for SRH vs DC

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The over-reliance of the team on David Warner and Jonny Bairstow has started to hurt them as they have not been able to strike in unison this year. Furthermore, the lack of power in the powerplay overs has often pressurized the middle-order, where barring Manish Pandey, most of the players have lacked consistency. Though Vijay Shankar’s recent form and Jason Holder’s addition after the injury to Kane Williamson has solidified their middle-order to some extent, the likes of Priyam Garg and Abdul Samad need to take more responsibility.

Rashid Khan has given some impactful performances in the tournament and is currently the second leading wicket-taker amongst spinners with 14 in his bag. Sandeep Sharma will lead the pace attack alongside Khaleed Ahmed and the impressive yorker expert T Natarajan.

Probable XI- David Warner (C), Jonny Bairstow (WK), Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, Priyam Garg, Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Sandeep Sharma, T Natarajan

Delhi Capitals

Although he was dismissed cheaply in the last encounter, Shikhar Dhawan was at his marauding best with four consecutive 50-plus scores, of which two were consecutive centuries. The same could not be said about his partner Prithvi Shaw, who was dropped in the last game after a string of low scores. Though, the problem does not seem to come to an end as Shaw’s replacement Ajinkya Rahane was not able to leave an impression and scored a golden duck.

Another headache for the team is Rishabh Pant’s cold run in the middle-order as the southpaw has scored with a strike rate of 117 this season. The South African pace duo of Kagiso Rabada – who is yet to go wicket-less this season, and Anrich Nortje has been exceptional, and they have been well assisted by spinners Axar Patel and Ravi Ashwin.

Probable XI- Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (C), Rishabh Pant (WK), Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Tushar Deshpande/Harshal Patel, Anrich Nortje
