Despite having all the luxuries, the team has made a rather ominous start to the tournament as they have only one victory to show after five matches thus far. In their last league face-off, the KXIP unit was left searching for answers after CSK scripted a record chase without losing a wicket to crush them by 10 wickets.

Their opponents in this game – Sunrisers Hyderabad – have been only marginally better with a couple of wins and 4 points to their credit in five league clashes so far. The addition of Kane Williamson has boded well for the side, although he missed out with the bat in the previous game. In Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s absence, the bowling unit of the team struggled as both Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma leaked runs. Especially the former, who ended up giving a massive 64 runs in his four overs.

Leading the charts from the front, KL Rahul has lit up the tournament through his form with the bat. His on and off the field pal, Mayank Agarwal, has been giving him a tough fight to keep the Orange Cap on his head. The problem for the KXIP outfit begins in the middle-order, where despite boasting the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Nicholas Pooran, and Sarfaraz Khan, the team has not been able to put up consistent performances.

Although Mandeep Singh and Pooran made decent contributions with the bat against Mumbai Indians, the batting unit has not been able to step up the way the skipper would like. The death bowling woes of the Kings have been manifest as apart from Mohammed Shami, no other bowler has been able to control the flow of runs.
