What does a captain – who opens with the bat and keeps wickets as well – do, when he is leading the list of most runs in the tournament; his opening partner is so close to his tally that the Orange Cap keeps juggling between the two; two of the team’s frontline pacers – Mohammed Shami and Sheldon Cottrell – have 14 wickets amongst them in five league matches, and yet, the team finds itself at the bottom of the table. Well, not that in the colors of India it ever was; it seems like being KL Rahul is not easy in the IPL too!

Despite having all the luxuries, the team has made a rather ominous start to the tournament as they have only one victory to show after five matches thus far. In their last league face-off, the KXIP unit was left searching for answers after CSK scripted a record chase without losing a wicket to crush them by 10 wickets.

Their opponents in this game – Sunrisers Hyderabad – have been only marginally better with a couple of wins and 4 points to their credit in five league clashes so far. Few teams have the blessing of striking the right combination. To know how much an unsettled eleven hurts, ask Kolkata Knight Riders! The story for the Orange Army has been as awry as the KKR, but they have not been at ease in settling their player combination either. The addition of Kane Williamson has reaped results, however, that has left the team with only four bowlers to play.

Ever since the start of this edition, the SRH setup has been taking on blows of injuries. With their pace mainstay Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s exit, things look only tougher for them as far as managing their team combination is concerned. With the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Priyam Garg, and Abdul Samad, who all have done well so far to hold their nerves, the skipper David Warner has relied heavily on a young brigade.

Coming after a 34-run defeat against Mumbai Indians, SRH will be eyeing to dominate a struggling KXIP on 8th October at the Dubai International Stadium.

Pitch and conditions

An even track awaits the two teams on Thursday with ample assistance for both bowlers and batsmen. There has been some genuine swing at the start of the game, whereas the spinners have extracted some turn off the surface too. In the 8 matches played at this venue so far, the team batting first has won 6 times, whereas the remaining two encounters have gone into the Super Over.

Playing combination for SRH vs KXIP

Sunrisers Hyderabad Probable 11

David Warner and Jonny Bairstow have not been able to provide a ballistic start to the team, although they have some decent knocks otherwise. Coming in after scoring a dominating half-century, skipper Warner will be keen to give a match-winning performance with the bat. SRH has a young and vibrant middle-order and they will be backed to do well again.

The addition of Kane Williamson has boded well for the side, although he missed out with the bat in the previous game. In Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s absence, the bowling unit of the team struggled as both Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma leaked runs. Especially the former, who ended up giving a massive 64 runs in his four overs.

Probable 11- David Warner (C), Jonny Bairstow (WK), Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg, Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Siddharth Kaul, T Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma

Kings XI Punjab Probable 11

Leading the charts from the front, KL Rahul has lit up the tournament through his form with the bat. His on and off the field pal, Mayank Agarwal, has been giving him a tough fight to keep the Orange Cap on his head. The problem for the KXIP outfit begins in the middle-order, where despite boasting the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Nicholas Pooran, and Sarfaraz Khan, the team has not been able to put up consistent performances.

Although Mandeep Singh and Pooran made decent contributions with the bat against Mumbai Indians, the batting unit has not been able to step up the way the skipper would like. The death bowling woes of the Kings have been manifest as apart from Mohammed Shami, no other bowler has been able to control the flow of runs.

Probable 11- KL Rahul (C & WK), Mayank Agarwal, Mandeep Singh, Glenn Maxwell, Nicholas Pooran, Sarfaraz Khan, Krishnappa Gowtham, Mohammed Shami, Ravi Bishnoi, Sheldon Cottrell, Chris Jordan.
