Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team will play two four-day matches and a five-match One-day series when they tour India later this month. The tour commences on May 21, 2019, and the first four-day game is scheduled to be played on May 25 at Belagaum, a city in Karnataka.
Earlier, Pakistan’s U19 tour of Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to begin last month was indefinitely postponed due to high unrest in the country. On April 21, eight explosions devastated the Sri Lankan cities of Colombo, Negombo, Kochchikede and Batticaloa on the holy occasion of Easter Sunday, celebrated by the Christian community. More than 250 people were killed and over 500 others were injured in the serial blasts. The Pakistan U19 team was scheduled to leave for Colombo on April 30 and the play would’ve begun on May 3 in Galle.
Addressing the 15-member World Cup Lankan squad led by Dimuth Karunaratne, the SLC secretary said, “Heal our hearts with some scintillating cricket for us to rejoice.” Hence, inspiring the players to lift the trophy and let cricket be the healing to this massacre. While it’s unsure when will cricket be hosted in the country again, the game is still being treated with importance and care.
