Sri Lanka has been in a transition period for quite some time now. Players like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, and Tillakaratne Dilshan retired almost at the same time leaving a huge hole in the team. It seemed like Sri Lanka were never planning on replacing them as the youngsters are finding it hard. Like the team, the board is also going from a transition period.

Many of the board members resigned in the recent months and there was a major reshuffle there as well. The Sri Lankan Cricket Board was in a turmoil at one point only to recover gently and slowly. However, this has had an impact on the field as the players have suffered a lot. They had some promising performances down under but failed to make an impact against the Indian side at home.

Gurusinha returns as selector

Asanka Gurusinha was in the Sanath Jayasuriya led selection committee. Former Sri Lankan cricketer had to step down because all the committee members did so. He did mention the same while talking to the press. He said, “When the others are stepping down, I can’t stay there.” However, he has now returned in multiple roles.

Gurusinha will play three roles in all, which is, the role of selector, team manager and also the team director. The Sri Lankan will have a lot of work on his hands as he will work with a new board altogether. The other members who have taken up different roles are the former wicket-keeper Gamini Wickremasinghe, former national team manager Jeryl Woutersz, and Sajith Fernando who was an outstanding domestic player.

This team will be led by a new leader in the name of Graeme Labrooy who is a former Sri Lanka seam bowler. He will be the head of the committee as this was confirmed on Friday itself. This committee will have to act quickly and select a squad which will face Pakistan from September 28.
