The Sri Lanka Cricket has been going through a tough time in the recent past. A lot of questions have been asked about the faulty administration. While team Sri Lanka has been struggling on the field, the SLC has struggled to cope up with the pressures of the media. Now, some of the strange appointments made by the former SLC President Thilan Sumathipala have come to the fore which show serious pay scale disparities.

The recent reports in Cricket Age reveal that the Sri Lanka U19 Coach, Hashan Tillakaratne, gets double pay of what the Sri Lankan ‘A’ team coach gets. This is quite amusing considering the fact that the A team coach is often the second most important coach after the coach of the national side.

In any cricketing setup, the U19 coaches get paid lesser than the A team coaches. Talking about the appointments, Hashan Tillakaratne has been with the U19 team for about a year now. He receives a salary package of 5.5 lakh per month. On the other hand, the Sri Lanka A coach, Avishka Gunawardana, gets a pay of just 2.75 Lakh per month.

One of the top coaches in the country

Gunawardana is hailed as one of the top coaches in the country and it is quite amusing to see how he is remunerated lesser than others in the setup. He has over 12 years of experience in coaching. The former Sri Lankan cricketer has served s the Head Coach of Royal College, Head Coach of Sri Lanka’s most prestigious Cricket Club SSC For 8 years and was the Head Coach of 6 Provincial Tournaments.

Another coach who has been getting a rather lesser pay is Upul Chadana. The former Sri Lankan cricketer is serving in the capacity of fielding coach of the U19 team. He has been in the role for almost 7 years now. He is getting 2.5 lakh per month over the years and is yet to receive any increment from the Sri Lanka Cricket.
