Sri Lanka cricket is in a state of complete transformation and the board is in a quest to revamp the structure and build a new side around some core players, who can take the team forward in the near future. Following the departure of some legends from the Sri Lankan cricket, they have found it very difficult to replace the likes of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

As they embark upon a journey with the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in their sights, and under their new head coach Chandika Hathurusingha, the board aims to provide the best facilities possible to its players to help them bring laurels to the nation. However, in order to do so, they have roped in specialists in the spin and pace bowling departments, as consultants before their next major assignment in the West Indies.

Peter Sleep and Tim McCaskill, hired as consultants

Peter Sleep, the former Australian leg-break bowler, who represented his country in 14 Test matches between 1979 and 1990, will be working with the spinners in the camp. He is scheduled to arrive on May 7 and will be spending around 15 days with the players to help them get a better understanding of their game and the challenges that lie ahead of them in overseas conditions while touring abroad.

Tim McCaskill, who has been given the responsibility to groom some young fast bowlers in his guidance will be arriving the Island nation on May 8 and is set to spend 10 days with the team. However, Tim hasn’t played any international matches while boasting of a bulk of experience from his past stint with the Cricket Victoria as its High-Performance Manager. He has even worked with Australian pacer James Pattinson and helped him recover from his back stress fracture that he injured 2nd time in 2015, to stage a comeback into the game.

Hathurusingha insisted on these appointments

Reports from the Pakistan Observer suggest that the appointments have been made at the recommendation of Sri Lanka’s Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha. It is also no secret that the latter would be aiming at fostering a positive spirit for the pacers ahead of a few overseas assignments for the Lankans.

Sri Lankan is set to play West Indies for the three Test matches on the Carribean soil in May 2018. It is also noteworthy to remember that these coaches and psychologist Dr Phil Jauncey will not be with the players in Sri Lanka only as they are not planning to travel with the team.
