Australia began the final Test of the series strongly as they reduced the hosts to 26/5 only before Dhananjaya de Silva and Dinesh Chandimal’s resistance gave them a fair advantage towards the end of the day. The pair put on a record-breaking unbeaten 188 runs stand for the 6th wicket. Dhananjaya de Silva scored his maiden Test century while Chandimal scored a gritty 64. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day’s play.

2 – Dhananjaya de Silva is now only the 2nd Sri Lankan to score a century while batting at No.7 or lower against Australia in Tests. Romesh Kaluwitharana scored in 1992.

3 – De Silva is now only the 3rd player to score a century while batting at No.7 coming in with the team score of less than 30 runs in Tests.

4 – Dhananjaya de Silva’s fifty plus score while batting at No.7 coming in with the team score less than 50 runs is only the 4th instance for Sri Lanka in Tests.

12 – For the 12th consecutive instance, opening stand in Tests in Sri Lanka ended in single digits.

2006 – Last time before Dhananjaya de Silva, a no.7 came to bat with team score less than 50 and scored a century in Tests was Kamran Akmal vs India in 2006.
