Bangladesh made their 100th Test a memorable one by defeating Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test match at the P Sara Oval in Colombo to level the series. This was Bangladesh’s only 4th Test win outside home and the 4th team they have defeated in this format after Zimbabwe, West Indies, and England.
A collective effort by Bangladesh’s batsmen and bowlers led by Shakib Al Hasan’s all-round show helped the visitors register a famous win, their first on the Lankan soil. Here we look at all the records and stats created during the Test match.
1 – Shakib Al Hasan became the first Bangladesh player to score a century and take a 4-wicket haul in the same Test match.
3 – Dimuth Karunaratne became the 3rd Sri Lankan opener to score a century at the P Sara Oval in Test cricket. Amal Silva and Roshan Mahanama in 1985 and 1993 scored a century against India respectively.
4 – Bangladesh became the 4th team to win in their 100th Test match. Australia, West Indies, and Pakistan are the other three teams.
4 – Soumya Sarkar is only the 4th Bangladesh player to score fifties in 3 consecutive innings in Test cricket. Habibul Bashar, Tamim Iqbal and Nasir Hossain are the other three.
4 – Number of man of the series awards Shakib Al Hasan has received in Test cricket. No Bangladesh player has more than 1 series award in this format.
6 – Number of times Shakib Al Hasan has aggregated 100 runs and taken 5 wickets in the same Test match, the 2nd most times by any player in Test history. Ian Botham and Gary Sobers did it on 7 occasions each.
9 – Number of Test matches Bangladesh have won so far, the 2nd fewest for any team in their first 100 Test matches. Fewest: 7 win by New Zealand.
48 – Matches taken by Mushfiqur Rahim to complete 100 dismissals in Test cricket as wicketkeeper, the most matches taken by any keeper. Previous slowest keeper to the milestone was Moin Khan, who took 46 Tests.
101 – Number of fielding dismissals Mushfiqur Rahim has effected Test cricket so far. He became the first Bangladesh player to effect 100 dismissals in Test cricket. He has all of them as wicketkeeper.
269 – Runs added by Bangladesh after losing their 5th wicket in the first innings, the 2nd most they have added in an innings in Tests. The highest is 289 runs vs West Indies in 2012 at Khulna.
1004 – Number of wickets Rangana Hearth has taken in first-class cricket so far. He became the 2nd Sri Lankan to take 1000 wickets in first-class cricket.
2284 – Partnership runs between Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim in Test cricket, the most by a Bangladeshi pair in this format. They went past Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes pair who had 2275 partnership runs.
