Team India recorded their biggest ever win in terms of runs away from home as they dismantled the Sri Lankans to 245 in the 2nd innings after setting a mammoth target of 550. India declared their innings at 240/3 after their captain Virat Kohli completed his 17th century in Test cricket. A collective bowling performance from India closed down the SL innings on day 4 despite a fighting 97 from Dimuth Karunaratne.

1 – Virat Kohli’s century in the 2nd innings is his maiden century in 3rd innings of a Test match. Kohli’s 17th Test century in numbers.

3 – Number of Test wins for Virat Kohli as captain in Sri Lanka; the joint-most Test wins for any visiting captain in Sri Lanka. Ricky Ponting also had three Test wins as captain in Sri Lanka.

3/65 – Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling figures of 3/65 are the best bowling figures in an innings for India in this Test; the 2nd worst bowling figures in a Test the team has won. The previous best bowling figures for an Indian in an innings was 3/69 when they defeated West Indies at Port of Spain in 2002.

2009 – Last time three of the top 4 Indian batsmen scored centuries in the same Test match was in 2009 at Kanpur also against Sri Lanka. Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara in first innings and Kohli in 2nd innings scored centuries in this game.
