Sri Lanka v Pakistan 5th ODI- A match full of records: The Sri Lanka v Pakistan 5th ODI on July 26th was a red letter day for three cricketers, a day which will stay engraved in their hearts for a long long time to come. The day proved to be a treat for the passionate statisticians of the game. I’m talking about Tilakaratne Dilshan reaching his 10,000 ODI runs, Mohammed Hafeez reaching 5000 ODI runs, and Kusal Perera surpassing 1000 runs.
Pakistan had already won the series being 3-1 up after 4 matches. It was a dead rubber contest as it would not lay an impact on the winner of the series. But if you thought the match wouldn’t find enough reasons to hog the limelight then you were absolutely wrong.
Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 10000:
Dilshan scored a blistering half century in the game which made him the 11th cricketer overall to surpass 10,000 ODI runs. The swashbuckling Sri Lankan is a raging inferno with unabated zeal to strive for excellence at what he does. The inventor of the dil scoop averages nearly 40 in the format with 22 ODI centuries, all remarkable stats that connotes to this peach of a player.
Mohammed Hafeez’s 5000:
Mohammed Hafeez may have been banned from bowling but his batting prowess remains unperturbed by the setback and he was the sole consolation for Pakistan today, in what was a dismal performance otherwise. He also crossed 5000 runs in the process. Hafeez nicknamed as Mr.Professor is a classy player who averages 31, which may look delusional but numbers don’t always tell you the story. He has been a match winner for his side many a times.
Kusal Perera’s 1000:
Kusal Perera known more commonly as the carbon copy of the dynamic Sanath Jayasuriya crossed 1000 ODI runs in his career. His fluent and attacking batting style won him two man of the match awards in this series in both the games that Sri Lanka won. With the emergence of young budding talents like him it is safe to say that Sri Lankan cricket is in good hands.
Angelo Mathews 100 wickets:
The 28 years old Sri Lankan skipper completed his 100 ODI wicket in the game as he took the wicket of Pakistan’s Mohd Hafeez. Mathews has played 116 ODIs for Sri Lankan; the all-rounder has been an integral part of the team and has been leading Sri Lanka for the last few years.
Suchitra Senanayake 50 wickets:
Suchitra Senanayake the 30 years old off spinner also reached a milestone in his career with the game as he touched the 50 ODI wickets mark in the game as he returned with the figures of 8-1-39-3. Senanayake has thus far featured in 46 ODIs for Sri Lanka.
