After failing to defend 300+ total, Sri Lanka returned strong in the 2nd ODI as they thrashed Zimbabwe to register a 7-wicket win. Chinaman Lakshan Sandakan picked up a 4-wicket haul to break the back of the Zimbabwe middle order while debutant Wanidu Hasaranga took a hat-trick to wrap up the visitors’ innings for 155. Sri Lanka lost a couple of early wicket before the Lunch break but an unbeaten 75 from Upul Tharanga ensured they didn’t collapse further.

1 – Wanidu Hasaranga’s hat-trick in this game is the first hat-trick by a leg-spinner in ODI cricket.

3 – Number of players including Wanidu who have taken a hat-trick on ODI debut. Taijul Islam and Kagiso Rabada are the other two bowlers with an ODI hat-trick on debut.

3 – Hasaranga is only the 3rd player to take a hat-trick on his International debut after Maurice Allom and Peter Petherick.

3 – Upul Tharanga’s last 3 innings in ODI cricket: 75*, 79* and 53. This is the 2nd time he has scored fifties in 3 consecutive ODI innings. He scored 72, 105 and 110 in successive ODI innings in 2006.

4/52 – Lakshan Sandakan’s bowling figures of 4/52 are his best bowling figures in ODI cricket. This is also his first 4-wicket haul in ODIs and his 4th in International cricket in the 19 innings he has bowled.

5 – Wanidu is only the 5th Sri Lankan to take a hat-trick in ODI cricket. The previous four Sri Lankans with an ODI hat-trick were fast bowlers.

19y 338d – Wanidu Hasaranga’s age coming into this game; he is the 3rd youngest player to take a hat-trick in ODIs after Aaqib Javed (19y 81d) and Saqlain Mushtaq (19y 310d).

33.4 – Overs Sri Lanka needed to bowl out Zimbabwe; the fewest they have taken to bowl out their opposition since 2014 when they bowled out Pakistan in 32.1 overs at Dambulla.

127 – Number of ODI losses Hamilton Masakadza has been a part of for Zimbabwe; the joint 5th most by any player. He equalled with Brendon Taylor who also was a part of 127 ODI losses of Zimbabwe.
